About Open Courts Initiative
Open Courts Initiative (OCI) is a Kansas City–based nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to tennis and the opportunities it creates. We believe that where a player lives, what season it is, or what a family can afford should not determine access to the game—or the pathway that follows.
OCI exists to build a unified, public-facing tennis ecosystem across the Kansas City metropolitan area. By activating public courts as hubs for learning and community, we create accessible entry points for players of all backgrounds and connect them to clear, affordable pathways for development.
Our model brings together community outreach, open access programming, coaching, and structured progression into one connected system—ensuring that players from all backgrounds and experience levels are introduced to tennis and supported as they grow in skill, confidence, and character. As players develop, they are encouraged to stay engaged and give back, helping foster a sustainable cycle of mentorship, connection, and opportunity across communities.
OCI is committed to making tennis more than a sport. Through coaching, mentorship, and community partnerships, we work to ensure that every individual has the opportunity to develop on and off the court—and that access to growth and opportunity is not limited by zip code or circumstance.
